The Root Of All Evil?

For we brought nothing into the world, just as we shall not be able to take anything out of it. If we have food and clothing, we shall be content with that. Those who want to be rich are falling into temptation and into a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all evils, and some people in their desire for it have strayed from the faith and have pierced themselves with many pains. (1 Tm 6:7-10)

The above passage sums up one of the main problems with the world today, especially for those of us in the United States. We have so much and yet our culture teaches us that we should still seek after more. In order to accumulate more possessions, we need to work more. This leads to less family time and a greater love of materialism.

If St. Paul?s words aren?t enough to convince you, listen to the words of Jesus?

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.? (Mt 6:19-21)
