?I Do Believe; Help My Unbelief!?

One of the biggest frustrations experienced by Bible-reading Christians, is repeatedly listening to Jesus emphasize the importance of possessing a strong faith. There are numerous references in Sacred Scripture where Our Lord attributes answered prayer to having a strong faith. Immediately upon seeing His comments, the vast majority of us feel guilty because our trust is lacking. Therefore, we set out to ?improve our faith? and ?trust more?. Unfortunately, by acting in this way, we lose sight of the fact that faith is a gift. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC):

Faith is a gift of God, a supernatural virtue infused by him. “Before this faith can be exercised, man must have the grace of God to move and assist him; he must have the interior helps of the Holy Spirit, who moves the heart and converts it to God, who opens the eyes of the mind and ?makes it easy for all to accept and believe the truth.'” (CCC 153)
While we can ask the Lord for help, we can?t simply ?believe more?. When it comes to increasing our faith, the best advice is to borrow the words of the faith-challenged man who asked Jesus to heal his son:
“I do believe, help my unbelief!” (Mk 9:24)

Repeat that prayer (at least once daily) and see what happens to your faith?
